As a consequence that Drexel dining center could not provide good and enough food to students, we found that there are three main effects are affecting students’ life at Drexel.
First, dissatisfaction of food at school will have impacts on students’ academic performance. When students cannot get the food they love, it will lead them have bad mood. Students will do more harm than good if they are in the wrong mood when studying.
Second, a nutrient-poor diet could not be providing students enough energy for studying or working out. Poor food will impair students’ health and make them either lose weight or gain weight. Without many food choices, many students will choose fast food and this will influence them to keep fit.
Last but not least, each one at Drexel represents the school. If students are affected by dining center’s food that most of them cannot perform excellently on academic success and cannot keep a good-looking appearance, it will leave a bad impression to people who are outside Drexel, even people who are interested about Drexel.
The survey above shows some solutions that suggested by the students.
Many students wish that the dining center can be able to provide more kinds of food, such as Japanese food, Indian food and Korean food. Others hope Hans dining center can improve their way of cooking better food, and the serving attitude of the staff.
There are two interviewees who are vegetarians. They hope that the dining center can provide more food for vegetarians, because they cannot get enough food choices as they want.
Besides the problems of food, we also found issue of the sanitation in the dining center. Two of the interviewees said the door of the bread cupboard was broken many weeks ago, and no one came to fix it so far. The bread cannot be kept clean with an always opening cupboard. Also, they found there are a lot of little bugs in the bread cupboard. These are really seriously problems that this two interviewees hope to be solved.
One interviewee told us that the meal plan is really expensive for students, and it is not very worthy to pay such large amount of money eating in the dining center. Also, he thinks the food there is not very good. He hopes the univeristy could cut the price of the meal plans, and provide better food for students.
Conclusion
According to the survey and the interviews, the possible solutions we suggest Drexel dining center to do are building one more dining hall, expanding the salad bar that offers more kinds of vegetables, and changing new ways to cook. Also we hope dining center could put more attention on solving sanitation problem.
